Creating a sustainable future for all means taking action to tackle climate change. Ryohin Keikaku, MUJI's parent company, aim to create a better relationship with nature - one rooted in acting with respect for the environment.
That starts with reducing our carbon footprint. Recycling the earth's resources. And reducing waste.
We know this won't happen over-night - and we still have a lot to do. But we're determined to protect the good things on this planet - the ecosystems, animals, plants and trees that are a rich and essential part of life.
We're at the start of our journey to reduce our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in everything we do: from our stores to our supply chain and the use of our products.
MUJI's parent company, Ryohin Keikaku, has set a goal to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030. The first step has been to calculate MUJI's GHG emissions in Japan according to the GHG Protocol, the international standard. Ryohin Keikaku plans to assess emissions in all countries and regions where we have MUJI stores.
To reduce our CO2 emissions, we're making changes inside and outside our walls. We're working together with our partners to reduce the footprint of our stores, supply chain and product use. That includes promoting energy conservation, improving energy efficiency and powering our work with renewables.
Our parent company, Ryohin Keikaku, has implemented a range of energy-saving and efficient measures:
Our parent company, Ryohin Keikaku, aims to use 100% renewable energy at all stores and install solar panels at 100% of our own store facilities by 2030. Renewable energy is core to our emissions reduction strategy. We've installed solar panels at the Hatoyama Distribution Centre – with the potential to have a powerful impact.
We are transitioning to LED lighting at stores, and the headquarters in Japan completed the switch in February 2022.
